A stunningly glamorous suit from the era which defined the item for women. In a needlecord fabric embossed with lines of satin thread, the ribbing shimmers subtly giving the midweight black fabric wonderful depth. The skirt is simple and straight with a single pleat to the rear and a side metal zip. As was usual in the 40s, the skirt has no “real” waistband as designed always to be worn with the overhanging jacket. The jacket is short and classically tapered at the waist with small pads at shoulders. There is an inside off white border which simply peeks out beyond the collarless neckline to provide a “trim” around the neck down the front to the three fabric covered buttons. ¾ length sleeves with pleats at cuff - these may have originally sported matching buttons although it is neither clear or detrimental to the outfit. Label reads “Marie Moore Fashion Frock London Made”.
A simply beautiful suit impeccably made and in fabulous condition.
Code No. 1412D

The size UK8 skirt has been taken in – incredibly well done as only noticed due to discrepancy in size compared to the jacket which is probably a UK12. However, the excess material is still there encompassed in the rear pleat and could give up to 16cm (6”) to be let out again, if required. |
